Buy Local
When you come to the Lowcountry you will notice something different here; an independent, irreplaceable, irrepressible spirit. This spirit is fostered in what we all love about this place. The marsh at sunrise, massive stretches of sand and surf, fertile farmlands and an eclectic cast of loveable characters.
As lovers of the Lowcountry, we understand that we have a choice in what we buy and from whom we buy it. We have a choice in what we eat – and from where and by whom it is grown.
We encourage you as new neighbors to buy from local businesses, because when you do, the money is re-spent in our local system. Sales tax is paid each time money is exchanged through another local transaction. In turn, total tax revenue goes up, city services are expanded, and tax rates go down. Lower taxes encourage other businesses to blossom – and the cycle of prosperity begins again.
Buy from local farmers and producers not just because it’s fresher and tastier, but because when you do, you’re supporting our agrarian culture, the people vital to its success, and sustainable land use.
Cultivate relationships with those you do business with; seek out those unique experiences that enhance our way of life. Invest your money in a local bank, buy your food from a farmer’s market or locally owned grocery store, look for local seafood, enjoy the vast array of wonderful independent restaurants and shops.
We encourage you to BE Local and vote with your dollars. Join Lowcountry Local First in celebrating what we love most: the local, independent businesses and farmers who reflect the unique character, flavor and culture of the place we call home.
